1148+48 SN 2000db in NGC 3949 in URSA MAJOR
We have been informed by the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams
(IAU Circular 7475) that S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the
discovery by M. Aoki, Tsukioka, Toyama, Japan, of an apparent supernova
in NGC 3949 at CCD magnitude 14.3 on a CCD image taken Aug. 6.498 UT.
The object was confirmed by Aoki at magnitude 14.3 on six unfiltered CCD
frames taken Aug. 7.444, using an 0.43-m f/6.0 reflector + CCD and an
automated supernova survey system developed by Aoki. No star is present
at this location down to magnitude 18.5 on Aoki's 19 frames taken between
1996 and May 2000.
The supernova is located at:
R.A. = 11h 53m 39s.75, Decl. = +47 degrees 51' 46".6 (equinox 2000),
which is 20" northwest of the center of the galaxy.
An AAVSO preliminary chart for SN 2000db is being prepared and will be
posted on the AAVSO website.
Congratulations to M. Aoki on his latest discovery!

Supernova 2000db in the galaxy NGC 3949 is located at:

which is 20" northwest of the center of the galaxy.
Photos of
SN 2000db have been taken by Zorko Vičar and Peter Mihor
10th of August 2000, at 23:00 UTC with CCD ST7, exposure:60s,
telescope SC 10", f/6,3", city Ljubljana, state Slovenia.
We estimate CCD magnitude near value 14.
Image is nothing special
but it is interesting that image has been done from city Ljubljana,
where light pollution is very strong. So we are convinced, that
CCD astronomy can also live in the city.
